Erstwhile middleweight champ Chris Weidman has opened up on his transition to 205-pounds, but he’s got his attention on light heavyweight top dog Jon Jones.

Reactions have trailed Weidman’s announcement to move up a weight class, with a fan taking to Social media expressing what seems like a fun and hype of some sort of the yet-to-be-scheduled fight between Jon Jones and the former middleweight title holder.

“I would love to see @chrisweidman vs. @JonnyBones,” the user wrote. “That would be great.”

In his response to the tweet, Jones showed he habours no fear but courage, facing Weidman.

“Chris knows where I’ll be waiting.”

Jones, who last appeared at UFC 235, is scheduled make a return to the octagon in July at the UFC 239 pay-per-view event. The event is expected to be a showdown as the 31-year old Jones will be making attempt to defend his light heavyweight title against a ferocious KO specialist Thiago Santos.

The last appearance of the Rochester-born mixed martial artist’s at UFC 235 saw him score a unanimous decision victory over current Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Light Heavyweight division contender Anthony Smith.

Before the victory over Smith, ‘Bones’ had also seen off Alexander Gustafsson via third round knockout at UFC 232.

In a swift reaction to Jones’ Tweeter message, Weidman said he was ready to face the reigning division champion.

“On my way!”

Meanwhile Weidman’s last completive bout was back in November at UFC 230 event in New York. That was an appearance where he was knocked out, no thanks to Jacare Souza’s potent punches.

‘The All American’ has won just one of his last five outings, with the solitary victory coming over Ultimate Fighter 17 As holder Kelvin Gastelum via submission.

Weidman is upbeat he has all it takes to cause Jones’ downfall in the night

 “Honestly, I think I bring a lot of problems to the table with my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, and also I’m long, and I have power in my hands,” Weidman said. “Especially at 205, that might be a benefit for me. I think I’ll hit even harder. My wrestling and jiu-jitsu, on paper, is better than his.”
