Dana White not worried about Conor McGregor potentially crashing Nurmagomedov-Poirier fight in Abu Dhabi

UFC 242 President Dana White believes Irish UFC superstar Conor McGregor may be present at the fight between Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov when the two fighters meet on September 7.

Nurmagomedov looks to defend his title against interim champion Dustin Poirier. Dana believes there could be a potential face-off between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Yeah, he could,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto when asked if McGregor might show up at the event (via Express). “He could, possibly.”

“He hasn’t said [if he will],” the UFC boss continued. “I’m not [breaking any news]. He could, probably, show up to that fight. But I don’t know if he will. He hasn’t said anything to me.”

McGregor defeated Poirier via  knockout in the featherweight division some couple of years ago but lost to Nurmagomedov by submission last October.

Fans at the stadium will be expected to support Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, because f the predominance of Muslims in UAE; White doesn’t see that as a factor, as he believes they will welcome McGregor.

“I honestly believe that in that region they like Conor McGregor too,” he said. “I know they take things a little serious when stuff is said but Khabib won the fight. And I think it’s all just trash talk leading up to the fight. Obviously Khabib and Conor, there’s no love lost. Those guys do not like each other. But it’s part of the business.

“Culturally, I don’t think so. I would have no problem with Conor showing up there.”

McGregor has not fought since his October after a KO defeat at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov and he’s not scheduled for any fight yet. White is not worried that the Irishman will return to the cage anytime soon.
