In the third round of his fight against Raphael Assuncao on Saturday’s UFC Las Vegas preliminary card, Davey Grant made a comeback by securing a rare submission in the final seconds, just when he seemed to be on the verge of defeat.
While Assuncao attempted to take him down, Grant grabbed the fence, and Referee Keith Peterson deducted a point from Grant and didn’t return the fighters to the same position.
Grant capitalized on the situation and landed a spinning back-fist that injured Assuncao before locking in a reverse triangle, causing Assuncao to lose consciousness with only 17 seconds remaining in the fight.
Following the fight, Assuncao retired from the sport, leaving behind a professional record of 27-10. Grant, on the other hand, claimed his second straight victory and his third-round stoppage of Louis Smolka in his previous appearance at UFC Vegas 54 in May 2022.
