Gaethje may consider quitting fighting if McGregor leapfrogs him for title shot after Chandler fight

Conor McGregor has the potential to end Justin Gaethje’s career without even stepping into the octagon against him. With McGregor out of the USADA testing pool and his comeback fight against Michael Chandler, Gaethje is concerned that a single win by McGregor could lead to a title shot, regardless of whether the bout takes place at lightweight or welterweight. If this were to happen, Gaethje would be hurt by the actions of the company he represents, and he suggests he would consider quitting. Although he has expressed interest in facing McGregor before, at this point, Gaethje is targeting a rematch with Dustin Poirier, the man who gave him his second-ever MMA loss.

Gaethje believes that he and Poirier are two of the best fighters in the world and would like to fight either him or the loser of the upcoming Oliveira-Dariush fight. Despite not being scheduled to fight McGregor anytime soon, Gaethje remains a must-see fighter in the eyes of many.

In other news, Sean O’Malley revealed that he will not serve as the UFC 288 backup fighter, and Anthony Pettis expects Roy Jones Jr. to be surprised by his boxing skill. Carl Froch declared that he would face Conor McGregor in the cage, while Markus Perez claimed that Gamebred Boxing is paying him three times more than the UFC.

Jorge Masvidal vowed to “melt” Gilbert Burns as he takes aim at Khamzat Chimaev, and Paddy Pimblett admitted that the Jared Gordon fight was “a lot closer than I thought.” Finally, MMA Fighting’s Jed Meshew, Mike Heck, and Shaun Al-Shatti looked back at the “Smooth” career of Benson Henderson.
