Jorge Masvidal's retirement after UFC 287

Jorge Masvidal suggests retirement might come after defeat at UFC 287

Jorge Masvidal’s future in the UFC cage could be in jeopardy should he not secure a win against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. The 38-year old fighter disclosed that he would contemplate retirement should he fail to beat Burns on Saturday. “This could be the last one,” stated Masvidal. However, he also pointed out that he remains optimistic that his future is bright if he secures the victory.

Masvidal stated that the win against Burns would put his career back on track, allowing him to pursue more titles. “If I roll the dice and I do everything right, I’m going for it all. For one title, or many titles.”

Masvidal’s career has taken a hit following his loss of three consecutive bouts, marking the longest losing streak of his career. He failed to secure the title in his two previous challenges against Kamaru Usman, and his rival Colby Covington, following a grueling unanimous decision defeat at UFC 272 in March 2022.

Nevertheless, in previous fights, he had emerged as one of the biggest stars in the MMA after his triple dominance of Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Darren Till. The upcoming UFC 287 could be Masvidal’s comeback moment and, as he puts it, could be the start of resurrecting his career.

Despite his last few losses, Masvidal believes he is in his prime and is ready for his upcoming fight, which marks his 52nd as a pro fighter in his 20th year of pro-fighting. He mentioned that he is fully prepared and confident heading into his contest against Burns, stating, “I think I’m at my best right now.” Being a Miami native himself, Masvidal aims to give it his all for the upcoming fight, which will take place in his hometown.

“I’ve got my back up against the wall, but I get to start my resurrection here in Miami, Dade County, the city that birthed me, that made me, that molded me, so I’m more than excited. April 8, I give it all I got, and I win – we keep rolling that dice until we get that fight belt.”

In conclusion, the upcoming UFC 287 fight between Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns could decide Masvidal’s future in the Octagon
