UFC confirms Vancouver as the host for UFC 289, making a triumphant return to Canada

After a long wait of nearly four years, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has finally announced their return to Canada. Exciting news for Canadian fight fans, who will be glad to know that UFC 289 is set to take place on June 10, at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.

The announcement was made by the UFC President, Dana White, on Friday, much to the joy of people who have been eagerly waiting for this moment. Interestingly, the UFC has been a regular fixture in Canada, usually hosting multiple events every year.

Nonetheless, it has been nearly two years since the promotion last had an event in the Great White North. The Vancouver’s Rogers Arena hosted the Fight Night card headlined by Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone in September 2019.

Furthermore, the promotion’s latest Pay-Per-View event in Canada was held the same year, featuring a featherweight championship fight between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.

The upcoming UFC 289 event doesn’t currently have a main event scheduled. However, a number of fights have been confirmed for the card, featuring impressive matchups to keep the audience entertained.

Among them are Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira, Miranda Maverick and Jasmine Jasudavicius, Dan Ige and Nate Landwehr, Eryk Andes and Marc-Andre Barriault, Matt Schnell and David Dvorak, Hakeem Dawodu and Lucas Almeida, and Diana Belbita versus Maria Oliveira. With the level of talent lined up, this is an event that promises to be an exciting and intense experience for fans of the sport.

It is always a great feeling for sports fans when their favorite teams, clubs, or events finally return after a long absence. For Canadians who enjoy UFC events, having the promotion return to Canada after four years is a real cause for celebration.

Not only does it rekindle old memories and reignite interest in the sport, but it also proves that despite everything, there is still a strong desire and demand for UFC events in Canada. With the exciting current card composition and more matches potentially added later on, the upcoming UFC 289 looks set to satisfy the thirst of Canadian fight fans.
