The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Karl Williams and Chase Sherman at UFC 287 has been cancelled due to unforeseen medical circumstances. Sherman has been forced to withdraw from the contest, leaving fans disappointed and wondering if the fight will be rescheduled for a later event.
The news was announced at the start of the early preliminary broadcast for the pay-per-view event, which took place at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The bout was scheduled to take place at the beginning of the second set of prelims. However, the opening spot for that section of the card will now be filled by a strawweight matchup between Cynthia Calvillo and Lupita Godinez.
Williams, who jumped at the opportunity to fill in for Chris Barnett with less than a week’s notice, looked to build on his successful UFC debut in March. Against Lukasz Brzeski, he secured a unanimous decision victory.
As for Sherman, he was eager to turn a new leaf in his 2023 campaign after going 1-3 last year. Unfortunately, he lost his most recent outing to Waldo Cortes-Acosta in a unanimous decision.
As for the future of the Williams vs. Sherman matchup, it’s still up in the air. UFC fans will have to wait and see if the highly anticipated heavyweight clash will be rescheduled for another card.
