Bobby Green has revealed plans to legally change his name to “King” following his scheduled lightweight bout against Jared Gordon at UFC Vegas 71. Despite announcing his intention to retire from mixed martial arts on Instagram earlier this year, Green clarified to MMA Underground this week that he was only retiring his name, and not his fighting career.
Green has been fighting for 15 years and previously attempted to change his name but was prevented from doing so due to outstanding debt linked to child support payments. The fighter said he has since settled all his outstanding cases and will move ahead with the name change.
Green, who currently holds a 10-9-1 record in UFC’s lightweight division, said his switch to a singular name reflects his individuality as a fighter. The Californian also expressed curiosity as to how Bruce Buffer, UFC’s in-cage announcer, will introduce him once he makes his name change official.
