Marcus McGhee to replace Brian Kelleher in matchup against Journey Newson at UFC Vegas 72

Brian Kelleher has withdrawn from his bantamweight matchup against Journey Newson at UFC Vegas 72, leading to a change in the fight card. LFA veteran Marcus McGhee is slated to replace Kelleher at a 140-pound catchweight for the preliminary card, according to insiders familiar with the promotion’s plans.

The spin-off was first reported by Eurosport, and the card will take place on Saturday at UFC APEX, featuring 11 fights. Earlier this week, the card lineup was shrunk due to illnesses and injuries.

McGhee, with a regional circuit record of 6-1, will make his UFC debut. In his latest match, he defeated Luciano Ramos in the second round at LFA 149 by knockout, and he won his past two matches. Newson, with a total record of 10-4, is looking to recover from his recent defeat to Sergey Morozov, a decision loss during UFC Vegas 66.

His record in the octagon is 1-3, and he has one no-contest. UFC Vegas 72’s bantamweight event will be headlined by Song Yadong and Ricky Simon.
