Deiveson Figueiredo has withdrawn from UFC 290 against Manel Kape citing medical restrictions as the cause

Deiveson Figueiredo has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Manel Kape at UFC 290 due to eye injuries sustained during his loss to Brandon Moreno in January. Whilst Figueiredo had requested to fight at the pay-per-view event, his physical therapist and ophthalmologist confirmed that his eyesight is still not fully recovered and therefore he cannot fight. As a result, it is unclear if Kape will be given a new opponent.

Figueiredo confirmed his withdrawal and revealed that he plans to stay active in the gym but will avoid any hard training or sparring until late July. The former UFC flyweight champion is disappointed that Kape was his first choice of opponent upon his return from the championship tetralogy against Moreno. He expressed his desire to fight someone in the top 5 of the flyweight rankings and named Kai Kara-France and Brandon Royal as his preferred options.
