Sources with knowledge of the matter have revealed that Christian Rodriguez is currently in talks to face fellow unbeaten bantamweight contender Cameron Saaiman at UFC 290 in July. The event will form part of the UFC’s International Fight Week and is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Rodriguez, who boasts a 9-1 record, earned his biggest win to date in his last outing against Raul Rosas Jr. at UFC 287 in April. Despite missing weight by 1.5 pounds, he managed to defeat his opponent via unanimous decision and hand him his first career loss. Prior to that, he secured his first octagon victory with a first-round submission win over Joshua Weems at UFC Vegas 63 last October.
Saaiman, on the other hand, is currently undefeated with a perfect 8-0 record. He secured his eighth consecutive professional victory in March with a majority decision win over Mana Martinez at UFC 285. The 22-year-old improved his UFC record to 2-0 in December when he stopped Steven Koslow in his promotional debut with a third-round knockout. UFC 290 is expected to feature a featherweight championship unification bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez in the main event.
