The father of former UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal, Jorge Masvidal Sr. has been detained on charges of second-degree attempted murder using a deadly weapon or firearm, following a shooting incident at his son’s residence on Thursday.
Miami-Dade Police revealed that there had been an in-house altercation at the Masvidal property, leading to a victim being shot and hospitalized, where they are in stable condition. The shooter, who was apprehended at the scene, is undergoing questioning as part of the investigation, although their identity has not been disclosed.
After the arrest and in view of the arrest affidavit released, it was disclosed that Masvidal Sr. was at his son’s residence during the shooting and had been involved in a quarrel with a man named Luis Leoncini. Leoncini indicated that Masvidal Sr. had fired the shots following the argument, leading to gunshot injuries to his arms. Upon arrest, the authorities discovered a 38 caliber revolver concealed inside a cupboard in the home.
Under Florida law, second-degree attempted murder carries a jail term of up to 15 years along with a fine that can amount to $10,000. Jorge Masvidal Jr. retired from the UFC in April and in the recent past has been promoting his Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event upcoming in Sunrise, Florida, but has not made any statement concerning the shooting that took place at his home.
