Demetrious-Johnson-over-Adriano-Moraes

Demetrious Johnson emerges victorious over Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10 and considers retirement

Demetrious Johnson proved his prowess yet again as he secured a victory over Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10. With a record of 25 career wins, Johnson was in superb form, recording a unanimous decision triumph before a devoted crowd in Broomfield, Colorado. Despite intimating that he may be ready to hang up his gloves after a glittering decade-plus career, Johnson insisted that he would first have a private discussion with his wife before announcing his decision.

When asked if he was ready to keep on fighting, Johnson played it cool, jokingly asking if his audience really wanted him to continue before stating that he needed to speak to his spouse before committing to a decision. There was the possibility of a quick confrontation with Kairat Akhmetov, who won earlier in the evening before the fight.

When asked by Akhmetov, Johnson was more direct, responding with a call for more financial incentives. Despite Moraes’ hopes of winning, his attempts to overpower Johnson using his size proved futile, as his opponent managed to maintain the upper hand throughout the rounds.

Moraes’ attempts to use knees to dominate failed to have the anticipated effect, as Johnson refused to be brought down, delivering quick punches while simultaneously resisting takedowns and expertly going airborne with knees.

It was an often plodding battle for position against the fence that played out, with Moraes becoming fatigued over time and ultimately becoming another in a long line of victims of Johnson’s ample experience and his exceptional game-planning abilities.

With a record of 5-1 since making a high-profile switch from the UFC to ONE, Johnson has continued to demonstrate his strong form in recent years. Moraes, however, fell to 20-5 overall and 11-5 in ONE’s cage.

Other results from ONE Fight Night 10 included Rodtang Jitmuangnon’s KO of Edgar Tabares in Round 2, Mikey Musumeci’s sub of Osamah Almarwai in Round 1, Stamp Fairtex’s KO of Alyse Anderson in Round 2, Zebaztian Kadestam’s KO of Roberto Soldic in Round 2 and a host of other victories.
