According to insiders familiar with the situation, the anticipated battle between Rafael dos Anjos and Vicente Luque has been postponed until August 12th. The highly anticipated fight was originally slated to headline a UFC card on July 15th in Las Vegas. While the reason for the delay has not yet been confirmed, sources indicate that the dos Anjos vs. Luque fight remains on track to take place as a five-round main event in August.
Dos Anjos, the Brazilian MMA fighter, previously demonstrated his skills in the welterweight category when he defeated Bryan Barberena last December. This bout will mark his second appearance in the weight class. In contrast, Luque is striving for a win after losing consecutive fights to Belal Muhammad and Geoff Neal.
As a result of the postponement, the UFC has scheduled a women’s bantamweight bout between Holly Holm and Mayra Bueno Silva as the new main event on July 15th. Although verbal agreements have been reached for this fight, no contracts have been issued or signed as of yet.
It’s believed that the July 15th event will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, one week after International Fight Week 2023, which is headlined by UFC 290.
It’s unclear at this time what led to the delay of the dos Anjos vs. Luque fight, but it’s undoubtedly a highly anticipated contest with a great deal of interest from fans and followers. As always, the UFC will continue to provide updates on its fight roster, and we’ll be sure to keep our readers informed as well.
