Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill make weight for UFC Vegas 73 main event, while two fighters are over

Strawweight fighters, Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill, are finally going to battle it out this Saturday after their original matchup at UFC Vegas 72 was postponed by a week. The highly anticipated fight, which has been rescheduled as the main event for UFC Vegas 73, is significant for both fighters. Mackenzie Dern is the 9th ranked fighter in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings at 115 pounds, while Angela Hill is just a few spots behind her at No. 13.

In addition to the Dern versus Hill battle, co-headlining middleweights Edmen Shahbazyan and Anthony Hernandez will also be fighting. Both Shahbazyan and Hernandez successfully made weight with no issues. Shahbazyan weighed in at 185.5 pounds, while Hernandez weighed in at 186 pounds.

However, there were a couple of blips during the official weigh-ins. Welterweight fighter, Orion Cosce, registered at 172.5 pounds, which is 1.5 pounds over the limit for a non-title fight. Unfortunately, this is the second time that Cosce has failed to make weight, after previously coming in 1.5 pounds too heavy for a welterweight bout with Blood Diamond at UFC 277 last July.

Vanessa Demopoulos, a strawweight fighter, also missed weight by 1.5 pounds, coming in at 117.5 pounds, which is over the non-title fight limit. Both Cosce and Demopoulos will proceed with their respective fights against Gilbert Urbina (170) and Karolina Kowalkiewicz (115.5) as catchweights, but will forfeit 20 percent of their purses as penalty, according to the UFC.
