At Saturday’s UFC Vegas 73 main event, Mackenzie Dern emerged victorious with a unanimous decision win over Angela Hill. Originally scheduled for UFC Charlotte, the fight was moved to the headline spot after the previous main event fell through. Dana White was effusive in his praise of Dern’s performance, describing it as “unbelievable” and “badass.”
White noted that he had expected a grappling-heavy bout, but Dern surprised him with her impressive standup. Hill, for her part, showcased her toughness by weathering several submission attempts and absorbing significant damage from Dern’s striking. Despite the entertaining back-and-forth, Dern was the clear winner, with one judge giving her three 10-8 rounds.
After the fight, Dern called for a matchup with Rose Namajunas, and while White stopped short of confirming that fight, he did suggest that Dern is poised for bigger opportunities after such an impressive showing. With the win, Dern improved to 8-3 in the UFC and earned her fifth fight night bonus.
