Katie Taylor’s highly anticipated Ireland homecoming last weekend resulted in a disappointing loss for the former champion. Leading up to her fight, Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing promoter, revealed that UFC superstar Conor McGregor was one of the front-row attendees rooting for Taylor, hoping for a win. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Despite the loss, Hearn had a lot of positive things to say about McGregor’s impact on the promotion.
The fighter’s passion was truly evident as he cheered on the Celtic Warriors. As the co-main event progressed, McGregor grew frustrated with Hearn’s matchmaking, expressing his irritation when longtime Irish lightweight champion Gary Cully lost his third-round.
McGregor voiced out his support for Cully and suggested that he should’ve been pitted against an easier opponent instead. Overall, McGregor’s enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and welcomed, making the event more exciting for everyone involved.
