The UFC welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry has become a star on the rise after scoring the most significant win of his career at UFC Charlotte. He achieved this feat by knocking out Daniel Rodriguez, becoming the first fighter to do so, during Round 1 of the fight; this marks his professional record at 12-0 and 5-0 in the UFC. Although he was delighted with the reception he received in Charlotte, the Irishman believes that his fame would reach another level if he competes in his hometown of Dublin.
The UFC has held three cards in Dublin, and since McGregor’s last event, no news claims another event would take place in Dublin. Machado Garry thinks he is the person who could maintain his fame and popularity and make UFC come back to Ireland. According to him, he believes that when he beats Neil Magny, followed by smoking someone else in the top 15, he will be able to pull them back to Europe to reignite that Irish base, hype, fire, and watch all players follow him up to UFC just as McGregor had done.
Furthermore, Machado Garry believes that he is not only capable of making the UFC come back to Ireland but also has enormous star power. He talked with UFC President Dana White on this, saying that he wants them back and Dana promised to work on it. He believes that the return of UFC to Ireland is possible with him at the top of the marquee, and he has already given a keen suggestion that Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson would be a fantastic main event to stack the card with Irish and European talent from top to bottom, which would sell out the arena without the need for additional fighters.
Lastly, he needs to keep pushing and putting his nation on his back to keep winning and show that he’s the right fit to bring the UFC back to Dublin, an aspiration he had disclosed to a journalist before his fight and hoped to fulfill someday. And with just one step away from achieving his dream, he is confident that it’s only a matter of time for the UFC to return to Ireland next year.
