Reflecting on UFC champion’s feuds with Dana White

Aljamain Sterling has recently butted heads with UFC president Dana White, but this is not the first time White has feuded with one of his champions. Tito Ortiz is perhaps the most famous example of White’s contentious relationship with his athletes. White was Ortiz’s manager until he convinced his friends to buy the UFC and became a promoter. Ortiz and White became combative towards each other, which even led to a provision in Ortiz’s contract for a boxing match with White that never came to fruition.

Other feuds include White accusing Jon Jones of being an unpopular champion and upsetting the cancellation of a UFC event, Demetrious Johnson’s mistreatment by the UFC when he tied the promotion’s all-time record for consecutive title defenses, and White suing his sitting heavyweight champion Randy Couture after he quit the UFC due to being allegedly paid less than other fighters. These are just some of the feuds that have occurred during White’s tenure as UFC president, with others including Cris Cyborg, Francis Ngannou, Amanda Nunes, Frank Shamrock, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Tyron Woodley, and Nicco Montano.
