In his UFC main event debut, Amir Albazi managed to clinch a win over Kai Kara-France, despite a controversial back-and-forth split decision. The fight was an important moment for Albazi, who is seeking to establish himself as a credible threat to the flyweight title. Albazi acknowledged that he has no one to blame but himself for not following his game plan and allowing Kara-France to stick around all five rounds.
Albazi is still confident he secured the victory, but knows it’s never a certainty when the judges get involved. He hopes to use his first main-event win to propel himself toward the next goal in his career claiming a UFC title at 125 pounds. Albazi did not call out any single fighter by name after his win, but instead kept his attention focused on the upcoming flyweight title bout between reigning champion Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja.
Albazi hopes to wait to see who holds the title after Moreno vs. Pantoja and then face the winner at the UFC’s expected Abu Dhabi event in October. He believes he’s the next in line for the title even though fellow flyweight contender Brandon Royval also sits near the top of the division with a three-fight win streak.
Albazi states that Royval pulled out of the fight against him, and therefore, Royval cannot go before him for the title. He’s willing to fight anyone in the weight class and is always game for it. Even if the UFC has other ideas, Albazi won’t turn it down, especially as he seeks to prove he’s the best flyweight in the world, no matter the opponent.
