Kai Kara-France shares thoughts on controversial split decision defeat to Amir Albazi at UFC Vegas 74

Kai Kara-France approached his fight at UFC Vegas 74 with Amir Albazi with a high level of professionalism and maturity. Despite feeling as though he deserved the win, he did not behave petulantly after suffering a split-decision loss. Over the course of five rounds, Albazi edged out Kara-France on the scorecards, with two judges awarding him the win.

Kara-France previously lost to Brandon Moreno in July 2022, which meant that Saturday’s defeat represented a second straight loss for him in the flyweight division. Nevertheless, he did not want to play the blame game or engage in any finger-pointing, as he knows that judges’ decisions can be subjective in MMA.

Kara-France recognized that the fight was a game of inches and that the judges scored control, aggression, and damage, among other things. When the results were announced, Kara-France was disappointed but praised his opponent for his well-rounded performance.

In the lead-up to the fight, Kara-France was known for his striking skills, and he did indeed outstrike Albazi quite significantly on the feet. However, he found himself backing up and fighting off Albazi’s constant onslaught throughout the bout, which may have affected how the judges scored the fight. Kara-France acknowledged that he could have done more to control his opponent and capitalize on moments when he might have put more pressure on. Nonetheless, he was happy to have delivered a fun, stand-up fight for fans of the sport.

Kara-France demonstrated humility, regardless of the result, and he heaped praise on Albazi for being a worthy opponent. He recognized the importance of flyweights being featured in the headline main event at UFC Vegas 74 and knows that he can bounce back from previous losses. Although he did not call out any opponents, he understands that losses can be character-building experiences and intends to rebuild and rise above any setbacks.

Fortuitously, Kara-France will also be welcoming a new member into his family soon, which he believes will give him additional motivation to train and rise through the ranks once again. Overall, he showed that he possesses the temperament necessary to be a top-level fighter, even in the face of defeat.
