Brendan Loughnane is content with the way his career has played out, despite previously being passed over for a UFC contract. Although the UFC remains the most popular MMA organization, Loughnane has become one of the faces of the PFL and has put together an impressive resume that should place him among the best featherweights in the world.
In addition to earning the $1 million prize as the 2022 featherweight champion, Loughnane argues there’s parity across the globe when it comes to MMA and it’s unrealistic to suggest that the best fighters in the world only exist in the UFC.
“UFC is a great organization, but Bellator and PFL have incredible rosters too. Any champion from the PFL, Bellator, UFC, or ONE championship could all fight each other and it would be mixed results. It’s a great time to be an MMA fighter with options everywhere now.”
Loughnane admitted that fighting for the PFL isn’t easy, given the rigorous schedule and demands that it places on a fighter. Despite the challenge, Loughnane still loves it, and he has grown to enjoy the season long format.
Although he may be tempted to pursue bigger one-off matchups when the PFL launches a “Super Fight” division on pay-per-view in 2024, Loughnane is still drawn to the tournament format that has spawned his success. “At the PFL, it’s a tournament format, and that’s the truth.”
