Reports suggest that ONE Championship fighter and atomweight champion Angela Lee may not be making a return to the sport. CEO Chatri Sityodtong addressed Lee’s future, revealing that the fighter is considering retirement following the death of her sister, Victoria Lee, who also competed in ONE Championship and passed away at just 18 years old in December of last year.
“While she has not yet made up her mind about retiring, ONE is preparing to crown an interim atomweight champion,” Sityodtong confirmed. The promotion is reportedly working towards a battle between Stamp Fairtex and UFC veteran Seo Hee Ham for the interim title.
Christian Lee, Victoria’s older brother and lightweight and welterweight champion in ONE, has also announced that he will not be fighting for the rest of the year to grieve his sister’s death but intends to return to fight in 2024.
ONE is reportedly looking to crown interim champions at both the lightweight and welterweight levels until Lee’s return, but no official announcements have been made regarding potential candidates for either title.
