Brendan Loughnane has lost his PFL featherweight title after being knocked out by Jesus Pinedo in a 94-second upset, eliminating Loughnane from the 2023 playoffs. The fighters both opened aggressively, with Pinedo leading the way and landing strong right hands while Loughnane struggled to find his feet.
In the clinch, Pinedo landed a knee to Loughnane that set the reigning champion on the canvas. Pinedo finished off Loughnane with a couple of hammerfists, securing a spot in the featherweight playoffs against top-seeded Bubba Jenkins while Loughnane will have to wait until next year to try to reclaim his title.
Movlid Khaybulaev, the 2021 PFL Featherweight World Champion, secured his place in the 2023 playoffs with a win over Tyler Diamond via an arm-triangle choke in the second round at PFL 4. In the first round, Khaybulaev landed a jumping knee that sent Diamond to the ground, but he managed to survive.
However, in the second round, Khaybulaev claimed control by shooting a takedown and taking the back before locking in the choke and garnering the tap. With this victory, Khaybulaev will face Gabriel Braga in the semifinals.
Marthin Hamlet clinched his place in the playoffs early on and ensured he kept his top seeding by winning his matchup against Sam Kei via unanimous decision at PFL 4. The fight was evenly matched on the feet, but Hamlet repeatedly scored takedowns, taking the back each time and displaying the threat of chokes and heavy punches.
Kei managed to escape these precarious positions, but he was unable to generate enough offense to overturn the setback. Hamlet will face off against Impa Kasanganay in the playoffs on August 4th. Bubba Jenkins defeated Sung Bin Jo in just 85 seconds, punching his ticket to the playoffs via rear-naked choke.
Jenkins took Sung Bin Jo down almost immediately and secured the submission after a few seconds, with Sung Bin Jo refusing to tap and losing consciousness. Jenkins himself secured his spot in the featherweight playoffs with this seventh win in PFL.
