Miranda Maverick had a tough time during her UFC bout against Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC 289, facing a daunting challenge due to an injury that caused her eyesight to become impaired. Despite her valiant effort, she was unfortunately defeated through a unanimous decision after attempting to persevere through her handicap.
Following the battle, Maverick expressed her struggles on Instagram, stating that she had to fight while suffering from a severe eye injury, which had left her blind in one eye by the third round. Maverick shared, “I want to say that some things are scarier than fighting and one of those things is going blind. My left eye went blurry end of the second round and was completely blind throughout the third round.”
The fighter shared how she plans to consult with a retina specialist in the near future and that while she was frightened during the match, she is still in control of her own fate. In spite of her situation, Maverick took responsibility for her loss, expressing that it was not her night. She gave respect to her opponent who drew on Maverick’s hesitations and poor shots and won the match through superior skill.
The fighter was remorseful towards those who had faith in her but expressed gratitude towards those who chose to believe that one batch of her life does not overshadow her entire journey. She concluded that despite her loss, she will be making a comeback in due time.
During the fight itself, Jasudavicius had the upper hand from the beginning, never letting up the pressure and working hard to outmaneuver Maverick, who still managed to put up a good fight and kept things even in the first round. Unfortunately, the injury left her defenceless and on the losing end in Rounds 2 and 3, resulting in the unanimous decision against her. The cause and precise moment of her injury remain unclear.
Having now gone three of her last five fights with three losses, Maverick is down to a 4-3 score in the UFC. Despite this recent string of losses, the fighter has yet to give up and will undoubtedly continue to work hard for her future success.
