Irene Aldana has released a response to her defeat at the hands of Amanda Nunes during UFC 289, citing it as a “bad night”

Irene Aldana, despite her regrets over her loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 289, promises her fans that she intends to climb back to the top. Following her defeat, officials requested that Aldana be checked out at a local Vancouver hospital, which prevented her from attending the post-fight press conference. However, Aldana assured her fans that she did not suffer any significant physical damage, other than the sting from losing her first bid to become UFC Champion.

Aldana expressed her admiration for Nunes as a fighter and thanked her coaches and fans for their support throughout the match. Although she acknowledges that it was a bad night for her, Aldana is determined to maintain her goal of becoming the fourth belt holder.

Despite being a considerable underdog in the lead-up to the fight, Aldana gained favor among her fan base, particularly after Nunes had revealed that she had contemplated retiring following her previous victory over Julianna Pena. Despite ultimately deciding to retire following the event, Nunes put on a masterful, five-round showcase of her abilities, defending her title with flying colors.

Aldana, on the other hand, drew criticism for her lack of engagement with Nunes throughout the bout, with the UFC team drawing attention to her passivity numerous times. While she weathered the storm from the get-go, she was outstruck significantly by Nunes, being struck almost four times as often, with Nunes landing a total of 196 strikes to Aldana’s 57.

Aldana also gave up six takedowns and only held control for ten seconds during the match. Despite the loss, Aldana remains level-headed, having identified areas where improvements are required. She promises to correct these errors ahead of her next fight, determined to come out on top.

Aldana’s positive approach has garnered her encouragement from Nunes, who was impressed by Aldana’s resilience throughout the fight. Further, now that Nunes has retired, Aldana remains in a good position in the division, alongside fellow fighters Pena and Pennington, as the weight class moves forward without Nunes.

Aldana conveys to her fans her determination to be successful in her future matches, expressing gratitude for their continued belief and support in her journey to becoming the fourth belt holder.
