Dana White proposes a Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev rematch, calling it the ideal fight to organize

Following his emphatic first-round victory over Beneil Dariush at UFC 289, Charles Oliveira has added another feather to his already-crowded cap, with this being his twentieth finish in the UFC. The win also marked a record 19th post-fight bonus for the fighter who already owned the record in that category.

UFC President Dana White may have confirmed that Oliveira will get a second shot at lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, after his outstanding display. The president praised Oliveira for how he has turned his career around since 2016, and White believes that he and Makhachev should fight again.

Oliveira had previously lost to Makhachev in their encounter at UFC 280 for the vacant lightweight title. However, fans are confident that Oliveira will put up a better fight this time around as he assures them that it will be a different Charles in their rematch.

Although White acknowledges that several factors will need to be taken into consideration before the rematch can be confirmed, he’d like to see it happen. These considerations include the possibility of injuries on either side, timeline, and the input of Makhachev. Right now, Makhachev is undergoing medical checkups, which may set back the timeline and ultimately affect the decision to rematch.

While Oliveira’s victory signified a return to form for the fighter, it was disastrous for his adversary, Dariush. The Californian MMA artist had an eight-fight win streak heading into UFC 289, with his chance to fight for the title all but guaranteed should he come out victorious. However, his loss means that he has crashed out of the title picture.

When asked about Dariush’s future, White said that the fighter would have to take some time to think about it and speak with his family before deciding what next steps to take. Dariush will have several things to weigh, including his emotional and mental state, before he can make a decision.
