Islam Makhachev has no interest in competing for the BMF title, as he sees the belt as an unnecessary addition to the UFC landscape. He believes that the BMF belt is intended for fighters who are unable to become champions in their weight classes and as a UFC champion, he has no desire to compete for it.
Makhachev looks to defend his lightweight title against Charles Oliveira next, but acknowledges that a fight against Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje could be exciting for fans. However, he prefers that the BMF belt stays out of that conversation.
In terms of Poirier vs. Gaethje 2, Makhachev thinks that Poirier has the better boxing and will come out on top. Regardless of future matchups, Makhachev makes it clear that he has no interest in the BMF belt and believes it should be retired for the good of the sport.
