Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor is facing yet another sexual assault allegation. A woman claims the former world champion forced himself on her in a restroom at a Miami Heat game on June 9th this year, according to her attorney Ariel Mitchell. The woman is said to have filed a police report, with Mitchell sending officials a letter claiming McGregor ripped the elastic waistband from the victim’s clothing.
Mitchell also alleges that McGregor went on to forcefully attempt to have sex with her. The letter states that Miami Heat and NBA security staff blocked entry to the restroom while McGregor attacked the woman, who had gone there voluntarily after the two were playing with the team mascot. The incident occurred in the wake of the fourth game of the NBA finals.
The letter also advises the Heat and NBA that they should resolve the matter before it gets out of hand, saying Mitchell’s law firm “is instructed to explore all reasonable settlement offers to resolve these claims before they escalate further.
In the event you or your attorneys fail to contact this on June 12, 2023, to discuss an acceptable resolution, we will assume that you do not intend to settle this matter and will proceed with litigation.” Neither NBA nor Heat officials have commented on the controversy directly, with the Heat stating only that they are conducting a “full investigation.”
McGregor’s legal team issued a statement conveying their client’s denial of the allegations, while a spokesperson for the UFC said they would not comment until the legal process had run its course. The organization also claims to be gathering “additional details” on the matter.
In 2020, French police detained McGregor in connection with a sexual assault accusation, later dropping the charges against him due to lack of evidence. The Irish fighter is also currently facing charges in Dublin relating to an alleged 2018 assault involving an auto-repair garage attendant.
It has been a tumultuous few years for the Irish fighter, who this year concluded his coaching role on The Ultimate Fighter. He is expected to face leading fighter Michael Chandler, but no date has been scheduled for the bout.
