Popular MMA star and former UFC flyweight title challenger John Dodson is set to compete in an upcoming bare-knuckle boxing event, and will be going head-to-head with JR Ridge for the inaugural flyweight title fight at BKFC 48. Scheduled to take place at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M., on Aug. 11, the highly anticipated event is expected to attract fans from all over the world.
Dodson, a seasoned fighter with a wealth of experience under his belt, is a two-time UFC flyweight title challenger, but was unable to secure the coveted belt after losing to Demetrious Johnson in both 2013 and 2015.
The fighter subsequently put his skills to the test in the bantamweight category for a period of time before returning to the 125-pound flyweight category last year when he made his BKFC debut. Dodson was able to secure a 40-second win over Ryan Benoit and a second knockout of former interim bantamweight champion Jarod Grant at Knucklemania 3, earning himself a coveted shot at the flyweight title.
In contrast, Ridge, who hails from the Philippines, has thus far competed solely in BKFC fights. With a wealth of experience in the promotion, the fighter is currently on a two-fight winning streak and most recently defeated Chance Wilson at BKFC 32, securing his place in the upcoming bout against Dodson.
While the rest of the bout lineup for BKFC 48 has yet to be announced, fans are already eagerly anticipating the upcoming event and the epic showdown between these two highly skilled fighters.
