Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull has called in the services of jiu-jitsu coach Daniel Wanderley to help him prepare for his upcoming fight with bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis.
Wanderley previously trained at Roufusport MMA and coached Pettis and his brother Anthony for eight years, from ages 18 to 26. Despite now training Pitbull, Wanderley still holds respect and admiration for Pettis and believes his former student won’t feel disrespected by the move.
Wanderley even took Emmanuel Sanchez, who has fought both Pitbull and Wanderley in his corner, to help prepare Pitbull for the upcoming fight. Wanderley expects his involvement to affect Pettis to some degree, as they had a good connection during their time together.
Wanderley believes Pitbull will use his skills strategically and expects him to win the fight by knocking Pettis down before submitting him with a guillotine or rear-naked choke. Wanderley has faced criticism online for training Pitbull, but he insists he is not a traitor and that Pettis has a new coach now.
