The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently made an announcement about Felipe Bunes’ withdrawal from his highly anticipated June 17th showdown against Zhalgas Zhumagulov. According to the statement, the reason for this decision was categorized as “medical reasons.”
Ostensibly, Bunes did not specify the type of substance that necessitated his exclusion from the fight. Nevertheless, he mentioned that he had cooperated fully with officials responsible for testing and hoped that the matter would be cleared up expeditiously. Representing Pitbull Brothers in Natal, Brazil, Bunes, the former LFA flyweight champion, has won three out of his last four matches, leading to his inclusion in the UFC.
Notably, Bunes’ only defeat during the period under review was against Jussier Formiga, who showed up overweight in February 2022. As a result of Bunes’ unavailability, Zhumagulov will now face Joshua Van, who is an octagon newcomer, at next week’s UFC event slated to occur in Jacksonville, Fla.
