Jared Cannonier outdoes himself, delivering a remarkable display in his battle with Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 75

Jared Cannonier etched his name into the record books of the Middleweight division with a grueling five-round clash against fellow contender and title-chaser, Marvin Vettori. In the main event of UFC Vegas 75, Cannonier made history by landing the most significant strikes ever recorded in the UFC 185-pound division, claiming a unanimous decision victory and bouncing back from a previous loss to Israel Adesanya.

Cannonier’s 249 significant strikes surpassed the previous record of 186 and earned him the judges’ favor with scores of 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46, granting him victory and a further upturn of forms after his challenging title opportunity at UFC 276.

Vettori had brought the heat early on and landed a massive punch in the first round, clobbering Cannonier and almost knocking him out, but Cannonier survived the onslaught and persevered into the next round. In the second round, Cannonier found his groove and delivered a massive shot that hurt the durable Vettori, who faced his most challenging moment in the ring.

Cannonier took advantage of the situation and barraged Vettori with a plethora of strikes for over half the round, but Vettori absorbed almost 70 significant strikes and struck back to last until the round was over.

The third round continued the relentless pace, and both fighters laid everything on the line. Cannonier gained momentum in the middle of the round and pummeled a bloodied Vettori, but Vettori’s toughness showed, and he survived the onslaught. In the waning moments of the round, Vettori mounted Cannonier’s back and was able to land a hard elbow, showing that he was never going to quit.

The championship rounds began, and Cannonier continued to keep Vettori guessing with a mixture of fluid martial art moves. Despite the crimson mask he wore from the bloodied wounds, Vettori refused to back down and offered Cannonier his best, even landing a massive head kick just before the fourth round ended.

The fifth and the final round saw both fighters delivering their best, but Cannonier was always one step ahead, striking Vettori and claimed a takedown. He punished Vettori with further ground and pound strikes and only built on his tremendous striking numbers.
