Jared Cannonier will only consider fighting Khamzat Chimaev if it’s for a title shot

Jared Cannonier has set his sights on another title shot and is willing to fight anyone to achieve his goal. After a dominant victory over Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 75, Cannonier believes he has earned his spot as one of the top middleweights in the world and is now in the running for the title.

Despite his confidence, Cannonier is not getting ahead of himself and plans to focus on his next fight, improving his skills, and leaving the decision of who he will face next up to the judges.

With Robert Whittaker taking on Dricus Du Plessis in a No. 1 contender’s match at UFC 290, Cannonier is left without an obvious next opponent. One fighter, however, that has sparked the interest of fans and Cannonier himself is Khamzat Chimaev. Cannonier is not interested in fighting Chimaev for the sake of entertainment, but if it means getting a shot at the title, he is ready.

Despite Chimaev’s status as a rising star in MMA, Cannonier questions whether a fight against him would guarantee a title shot. However, he is not ruling out the possibility and is open to fighting Chimaev if it means taking a step closer to achieving his goal.

Cannonier also has another option in mind: serving as a backup fighter for Israel Adesanya’s rumored title defense at UFC 293 in Sydney. Cannonier sees this as an opportunity to get paid and potentially visit Australia, a country he has always wanted to visit.

Overall, Cannonier is focused on the bigger picture and will do whatever it takes to get another title shot. Whether it is facing Chimaev or serving as a backup fighter, he is determined to make his next move count.
