Alan Belcher, the former BKFC heavyweight champion, has been stripped of his title just four months after winning it. BKFC president David Feldman announced the decision on Tuesday, citing interference with the organization’s plans as the reason for the move. Instead of crowning an interim champion, BKFC opted to strip Belcher’s title and will hold a fight to determine a new heavyweight champion in the near future.
Despite being stripped of his title, Belcher, a 38-year-old UFC veteran, will remain on the BKFC roster, and it is expected that he will compete there at a later date. Belcher’s resurgence as a bare-knuckle fighter occurred after he emerged from retirement following a more than five-year absence from action.
Belcher returned as a heavyweight and picked up three consecutive wins, including two knockouts, before earning a shot at the BKFC championship. Belcher captured the title with a third-round knockout over former champion Arnold Adams.
There had been speculation that Belcher would be matched up with fellow UFC veteran Ben Rothwell, but the fight never materialized. Belcher will now pursue his upcoming boxing match in July while BKFC moves forward with plans to crown a new heavyweight champion.
