Heavyweight fighter Justin Tafa expressed his disagreement with the decision to rule his fight against Austen Lane at UFC Jacksonville a no-contest after Lane accidentally poked him in the eye just 29 seconds into the contest.
Tafa posted a picture of his injured eye and called for justice, adding that he deserves his win bonus and that it should be declared a disqualification instead. However, the referee determined that the poke was accidental, resulting in a no-contest ruling instead of a disqualification for Lane.
Despite the unfortunate outcome, Lane apologized to Tafa and expressed his regret for the incident, revealing that the energy from the crowd during his debut at UFC Jacksonville would be something he’d never forget. Lane, previously an NFL defensive end, had earned a contract on The Contender Series and had a record of 12-3 as a professional.
