Cub Swanson has announced his comeback to the featherweight division. The highly-regarded MMA fighter shared on his Instagram profile that he has agreed to take on Hakeem Dawodu at UFC Vegas 78 which is scheduled for August 12th. According to sources linked to the competition, the exciting pairing will take place.
Swanson boasts an impressive record of 28 wins and 13 losses during his career, most recently he lost to Jonathan Martinez at UFC Vegas 62. The defeat arrived during his bantamweight debut and was the result of a TKO stoppage that was inflicted by leg kicks.
Although he competed at 135 pounds in his early days in the sport, he has been fighting above that weight class since 2006. Swanson has an impressive record in the featherweight division, including earning Fight of the Night bonuses nine times and Performance bonuses three times during 29 combined UFC and WEC bouts.
Hakeem Dawodu will serve as Cub Swanson’s opponent and he enters this intriguing matchup off the back of a loss to Julian Erosa at UFC 279. In that competition, Dawodu suffered a unanimous decision defeat after failing to meet the required 145-pound weight limit. Previously, Dawodu proved his ability in kickboxing and also represented WSOF before making his debut in UFC back in 2018. He has amassed a record of 6-3 in his time at the competition so far.
As things stand, UFC Vegas 78’s headline act will feature welterweight fighters, with Vicente Luque scheduled to take on former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. However, the clash between Swanson and Dawodu is sure to capture attention, eagerly anticipated by fans in the build-up to the August 12th event.
