UFC fighter Gilbert Burns’ left shoulder injury places him on an indefinite medical suspension

Gilbert Burns faced a shoulder injury during the opening round of his UFC 288 match with Belal Muhammad. According to the medical suspensions issued by the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, Burns would need to receive the clearance of a doctor before he can compete again. His suspension is, for the time being, indefinite.

Burns was noticeably disheartened during his fight, which lasted five rounds, and ended in a unanimous victory for Muhammad. Muhammad has ensured himself of a welterweight title shot against the winner of the upcoming bout between Colby Covington and champion Leon Edwards.

A total of 14 fighters received medical suspensions following the 12-bout card. Those with suspensions that do not have clear timeframes would require a physician’s approval before they can compete again.
